I watched the latest Wong Kar-wai masterpiece 3 times in just one week and I am really amazed by all the fantastic ideas. Or better to say I had so many blueberry moments with this movie and to be honest I have no idea how we are supposed to make movies while geniuses like him are still alive and not surprisingly they are doing very well.
I found Wong Kar-wei by "Chungking Express" then "In the Mood for Love" following by "2046" which the last one forced me to stay in bed due to depression for about a month! And then I got "My Blueberry Nights" a few days ago and I knew it was going to be unique and special and it absolutely was.
"My Blueberry Nights" is about Elizabeth who sets out on a journey after a break up and we follow her by reviewing her memories and at the same time her current relationships with others. And I gotta tell you that the story line and generally the story of this movie is really strong and well organized.
I have another reason to be happy here because the Iranian international cinematographer, Darius Khundji has done a superb job as the director of photography. Plus one of my favorite musicians, Nora Jones has had her debut here in world of acting.
But over all the stars of this movie are Wong Kar-wai and Lawrence Block who their fantastic screenplay overshadows anything else in the movie and you sometimes forget about all the other elements and follow the story.
"My Blueberry Nights" is really moving. As moving as so many fantastic films which I have watched in my life. But there is something special here that forces you to watch the movie again and smoke again.
