The Master behind such great hit albums like “Cantaloupe Island", "Watermelon Man", "Maiden Voyage" and "Chameleon" won the very unexpected Grammy for the Album of the Year. Herbie Hancock is the first Jazz Instrumentalist who wins the award in more than 40 years which according to him Sunday was "a new day".
His new masterpiece called "River: The Joni Letters" earned him 2 Grammys and marked a very special night for music and Jazz lovers all over the world. The visibly shocked Hancock marked the moment as a New Day:
"I know in the past, there have been several jazz musicians who unquestionably deserved to win or be nominated for album of the year, but that was then and this is now. It's a new day".Among the nominees for this category were Hip-Hop star Kanye West and the incredible Amy Winehouse who both won 4 Grammys.
There is a lot of respect here, with me for Jazz music and I am sure all the Jazz lovers were in wonder and shock when Usher and Quincy Jones announced the winner for the best Album of the Year. I mean come on, you do not expect Quincy Jones to dedicate the Grammy to West! Do you?!
Anyway! It was a great night for music! A great night for Herbie Hancock, for us and of course for Jazz.
Cheers
