First of all, I have to say that I watched the movie in a Malaysian cinema and they have cut the movie and I am desperately waiting for the good quality DVD version to enjoy more. But I have to tell you that Tim Burton is mad! He really is! Sweeney Todd is a great surprise and possibly one of the greatest and weirdest of our time.
This bloody musical is really something special. There were a couple of times which I had goose bumps and I was there shocked, looking at screen like crazy assholes who just found what is picture, what is cinema and so many other things!
Apart from all the nominations, Sweeney Todd has already won the best director and actor –Tim Burton and Johnny Depp respectively- in Drama & Musical, Golden Globe 2008. If you let me say, forget about Quentin Tarantino for a while and watch this festival of art and blood.I mean how someone could possibly take such a huge risk? And I respect Tim Burton a lot for his big balls!!!
Benjamin barker comes back to the city after 15 years to find his wife and daughter after a long exile for something he had not done and to revenge. He goes to his old place which he shares with Mrs lovett who has the worst cakes and pies in the town. Together they make a plan to find his family and enemies but always there is something which goes wrong...
If you watch the movie you realize that how difficult is directing such a movie and Tim Burton has done an amazing job here. Although there have been a lot of good movies around this year but his nomination for Oscar could be a possibility. On the other side, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter’s singing and acting are fantastic. Their roles are just fit to them and you hardly can imagine anybody else instead.
I waited to watch Sweeney Todd for a long time and yesterday was kind of a dream come true. I was really amazed by the combination of art and technology. And for all the goodness sake check the damn songs out…
God Bless You All

I loved the movie while it was terribly gory, but at the same time I left overwhelmed by the complexities of the story. Which just had me dumbfounded. Tragic to the core, and what i like is that Johnny Depp is not known for his singing capabilities and it showed, but it worked with the method of talking/singing on his part. Brilliant. Helena was no miss as well. Though i think they could've gone a bit longer in telling what happened to Johanna and the sailor
Hi Aronil and thanks for the comment. Johnny Depp has the long history of singing and managing his own band. And also I have heard that he has shown his interest in playing and producing a movie based on the lifetime of late Syd Barrett (The former leader of PinkFloyd). So he has been familiar with these stuff for a long time and I agree with you, He is great in this movie. About the last part of your comment I also agree with you. I mean there are a few things in the story which are not clear enough but at the end of the day Sweeney Todd is a well organized movie and damn...it is really hard making this kind of stuff...
I heard the Johnny maybe taking on a role in Heath Ledger's latest installment before he passed away - "I'm Not There". As for my previous comment, i heard that the producer and director wanted to focus more Todd's anger and revenge, hence they cut short the movie..ah well. Out of all the killing, Mrs Lovetts' death still haunts me. To be burnt alive in a hot furnace.. yikes!
i really wanna watch this movie unfortunatly no time these days
Hi Kya
That is a great movie.
You should have watched it earlier but never mind there is still time to watch it on big screen...
